Create a wallet
How wallet creation works in the Phoenix desktop application and what to do with your recovery phrase.
A new wallet is created inside the desktop application. Phoenix generates a seed locally on your computer and derives your Bitcoin and Lightning keys from it. Nothing is registered with an account or server.
What happens during creation
- The application generates a seed on your device.
- It shows you a recovery phrase derived from that seed.
- You record the phrase offline and confirm it in the application.
- The wallet is then ready to receive bitcoin.
Recording the recovery phrase
Write the words down on paper or stamp them into metal, in order, and store them somewhere only you can reach. Avoid screenshots, cloud notes, password manager attachments you do not control, email drafts and photos.
