Lightning payments move bitcoin through payment channels rather than recording each payment immediately on the Bitcoin blockchain. They typically settle in seconds.
Fees
Lightning payments are not free. Routing nodes may charge a fee, and channel or liquidity operations can incur on-chain costs. Phoenix shows the applicable amount before you confirm.
When a payment fails
A Lightning payment can fail if no route with enough liquidity exists, if the recipient is offline, or if the invoice has expired. A failed payment does not move your funds. Retrying, or sending a smaller amount, often succeeds.
