Network fees

Bitcoin and Lightning payments can involve mining, routing and channel fees. The applicable amount depends on the network and payment.

Types of fee

• Bitcoin mining fees — paid to miners for including an on-chain transaction; they rise and fall with demand for block space.
• Lightning routing fees — small amounts paid to nodes that forward a payment.
• Channel and liquidity costs — opening or resizing a channel involves Bitcoin transactions, and arranging receive capacity may carry a service fee.
